On March 13-15 2026, the UKSSC went on an excursion to Firbush, Loch Tay for the inaugural Scottish Highlands Community Retreat. After a weekend filled with fun activities and connection with nature, here are the highlights from the trip! 📸

We would like to extend our gratitude to Singapore Global Network, University of Edinburgh Sport, and Firbush Outdoor Centre for making this event possible, and a very memorable one at that! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

As President of the Cambridge University Malaysia and Singapore Association (CUMSA), Albert has demonstrated exceptional leadership in strengthening the Singaporean community within Cambridge while simultaneously building meaningful bridges with the wider international student body. He also spearheaded the organization of intellectually engaging speaker events, featuring distinguished voices such as Koh Buck Song and Professor Danny Quah, ensuring that discussions on Singapore’s development and global role were open and accessible to all students.

Beyond his outward-facing initiatives, Albert has worked tirelessly to ensure that every CUMSA event is thoughtfully planned, welcoming, and memorable. Detail-oriented and deeply committed, he plays an active role in shaping flagship events including SingFest, the CUMSA Chinese New Year Dinner, CUMSA Formal, Bridgemas, and Garden Party.

In addition, Albert oversaw a comprehensive overhaul of the CUMSA application guide, complementing the association’s broader access initiatives which have continued to thrive under his direction. Albert leads with integrity, diligence, and genuine care for the community he serves, and he is eminently deserving of recognition through this prestigious award.

As Secretary for the Cambridge University Malaysia and Singapore Association (CUMSA), Zheng Wei served with grace and entrepreneurial spirit, going above and beyond his role to benefit his community.

His influence was broad and all-encompassing, organising many CUMSA events between Singapore and UK for undergraduates and postgraduates alike. Notably, he played a key role in organising CUMSA’s Bridgemas (Christmas) event, raising over 11,000 SGD for Singaporean charity Beyond Social Services, exceeding the initial goal of 5,000 SGD. Zheng Wei also coordinated recruitment events with Singapore Statuory Boards like EDB, MHA, or RSN, allowing CUMSA to be keep events cheap for their members, and providing them the opportunity to explore career options.

Zheng Wei also took up the role as being the Captain of the CUMSA football team, bringing it up from a group of friends to a tight-knit community of more than 30 members. He took the initiative to organise matches at Freshers Squash, Oxbridge Games, and against other teams in Cambridge. His warm and inclusive approach created a welcoming environment for those of all abilities, ranging from recreational to more serious players all in the team, regularly holding football watch sessions and other team-bonding activities.

Recognising that Singaporean students in the North East region often operated within separate university circles, he took the initiative to organise the first-ever collaborative event hosted in the North East, involving students from Newcastle University, Durham University, and University of Sunderland. Coordinating across multiple universities requires significant effort and clear communication, yet he managed this effectively while remaining approachable and organised throughout the process. On the day, his calm approach ensured that the event ran smoothly and that the attendees enjoyed the event.

Overall, his initiative went beyond what is typically expected of a society president. Lucius is constantly working on upcoming events that continue the spirit of openness, and he makes sure every collaboration feels meaningful. Under his leadership, the society strengthened its relationship with other Asian societies in the region, guiding the community in a warmer and more connected direction.

As President of the UCL Singapore Society, Chin Siang has truly embodied what it means to be a leader of a Singapore Society. He displays cares for everyone under him, and is willing to go the extra mile if it means serving Singaporeans better. When some of the Year 1s faced housing shortages, he took time out of his busy schedule to email the UCL union on their behalf, despite it not being under his purview.

As the biggest Singaporean Society in the UK, Chin Siang and his team catered to diverse interests with a wide variety of events. From the smallest of things like taking the time at dinners and musicals to speak to every member, to bigger things, like spearheading new initiatives and running the show, he played an instrumental role throughout. At UCLSS’s flagship Orientation, Chin Siang fully rose to the occasion, helming the entire event from start to finish with clarity and calm, all while continuing to be the fun, approachable, and bubbly person he always is.

As the leader of his committee, Chin Siang’s emphasis on personal connection to each committee member fostered bonds that went beyond the work the UCLSS does. As a reflection of his hard work this year, UCLSS had 20 over Junior Committee members, inspired by his vision of building a sustainable community for the years to come.

At UCLSS’s flagship Orientation, Chin Siang fully rose to the occasion, helming the entire event from start to finish with clarity and calm, all while continuing to be the fun, approachable, and bubbly person he always is.

As the leader of his committee, Chin Siang’s emphasis on personal connection to each committee member fostered bonds that went beyond the work the UCLSS does. As a reflection of his hard work this year, UCLSS had 20 over Junior Committee members, inspired by his vision of building a sustainable community for the years to come.

On March 6, the UKSSC held our Annual General Meeting 2026 at the Singapore High Commission in London. We were pleased to be joined by our High Commissioner to London Mr Ng Teck Hean as the guest of honour for this event.

After brief introductions and a report by the outgoing President of the UKSSC Bryan Wee on the council’s achievements in the AY2526, the council celebrated the awardees for the Outstanding Student Leaders’ Awards: Yew Chin Siang, Lucius Chan, Lim Zheng Wei, and Albert Chieng.

The night concluded with a symbolic handover from the 27th Executive Committee to the 28th Executive Committee. Thank you to the 27th Committee for your service and commitment to the UKSSC over the past year. We, as the 28th Committee, look forward to strengthening existing connections and forming new ones with Singaporean students all across the UK!
