ARE PROUD TO PRESENT

It is hard to capture waves of change when we are in the boat that is moving. The distance that comes with the experience of studying overseas offers a broadened perspective on the currents of history that have shaped the nation over the past 60 years. As Singapore celebrates its 60th year of independence, it becomes imperative that we attempt to capture the essence of these changes which are often difficult to see while still in motion.
Through personal profiles of Singaporeans who have studied in the United Kingdom, SG60: These Tidal Years seeks to chart how Singapore’s past and present are shaped by the seas that connect us, the waves that challenge us, and the enduring ties that bind us to home.
Beginning with early stirrings of an overseas Singaporean student community, to the global networks that now link our diaspora, this publication is a tribute to a nation constantly moving: one whose development is shaped by those who remain on its shores and those who do not just go overseas—but out to sea—so as to navigate the world beyond.
